The IoC-View has been engineered with cutting edge technology to provide the Index of Consciousness (IoC) to the anaesthesia professional.
The Index of Consciousness, IoC-view, is designed to measure the level of consciousness during general anaesthesia where the correct balancing of anaesthetics or fast recovery is a concern.
The IoC-view uses the latest technology in electronics design and software ensuring safe and reliable performance. IoC view is the first depth of anaesthesia monitor to use Blue-Tooth providing a true wireless solution to the customer. Forget about cables between the amplifier and the IoC-viewer!
Why IoC?
The IoC-view provides reliable information about the patient state providing the anesthesiologist with the ability of safe administration of anaesthetetics, both inhalatory and intravenous agents. The IoC does not need individual calibration and starts with a one button press.
The IoC is viewed on a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) which has a superior colour display, on device reading of the manual and introduction of text comments during the whole surgery. All data are stored for later retrieval with an SD card or BlueTooth connection.
The IoC is a cost effective alternative to monitoring depth of anaesthesia.
Why monitor depth of anaesthesia?
Every day there is patients who experience awareness during their surgery although they believed they would be without consciousness during the whole procedure. While the incidence of anesthesia awareness during surgical procedures is relatively low, around 0.1-0.2 %, the experience can be excruciating and traumatic for the patients. New research suggests that monitoring the EEG may help reduce the number of patients who experience this phenomenon.
Perhaps even more important is the fact that patients whos anaesthesia is guided by neuromonitoring has a significantly better outcome, in terms of quality of recovery score, reduction in PONV, reduction in wound infection etc as compared with patients who received routine care. Reduction in consume of anaesthetics and faster recovery have been shown as well. When using the IoC, probably no extra costs are added to the hospital because anaesthesia guided with the IoC will reduce anaesthetics consume.

- The IoC is a scale ranging from 0-99, where 40-60 indicates adequate anaesthesia
The IoC technology
The IoC records the electroencephalogram (EEG) with 3 surface electrodes attached to the forehead of the patient. The IoC-amplifier (with Bluetooth transmitter) is placed close to the patient while the IoC display can be placed anywhere (within a 10 m distance) from the patient. IoC-view is the only true wireless solution, where recording and display are inherently separated meaning no disturbing cables between patient and the anaesthesia monitor rack.
The core technology of the IoC-view is the symbolic dynamics method. The combination of spectral ratios, symbolic dynamics EEG and Suppression Rate (ESR) for analyzing the EEG gives a superior suppression of facial EMG which otherwise could influence the index.
IoC View Monitor

- The IoC view contains display, batteries and Blue Tooth transmitter. The PDA is an auxillary of the IoC view system, showing the IoC, trend, EEG curve, menu etc.
